Stewardship Covenant
Guardians of the Cats – Sacred Sanctuaries & Rescue Ministries

For Affiliated Sanctuaries & Rescue Ministries

Affiliation with Guardians of the Cats is not merely a partnership of services. It is a recognition of spiritual alignment.

We affirm that cats are not “property” or “pests,” but living souls within creation—beings worthy of dignity, protection, and compassionate care. For our affiliated sanctuaries and rescues, the act of sheltering, healing, and defending cats is a faith-based expression of stewardship and a lived ministry of mercy.

This covenant establishes how that ministry is practiced—with both devotion and responsibility.

Our Spiritual Foundation

As an Affiliated Sanctuary or Rescue Ministry, we affirm:

  • We recognize cats as sacred lives and fellow souls in creation.

  • We view rescue, sanctuary, and compassionate care as a sincerely held spiritual practice—not a hobby or casual charity.

  • We operate as stewards of mercy, seeking non-harm, dignity, and protection for vulnerable lives.

  • We believe service becomes holy when it is expressed through consistent care, humility, and integrity.

Our Standards of Stewardship

Because our work is sacred, we practice it responsibly.

We commit to:

Care & Wellbeing

  • Provide appropriate food, water, shelter, enrichment, and medical attention as reasonably possible.

  • Maintain humane handling practices and reduce stress and suffering.

  • Support stabilization practices (such as spay/neuter support, planning, or partnerships) when feasible and appropriate.

Order & Cleanliness

  • Maintain cleanliness, waste management, and sanitation practices that protect health and community wellbeing.

  • Prevent avoidable odor, debris, or conditions that could be used to misrepresent the work as neglectful or disruptive.

Safety & Preparedness

  • Practice reasonable safety planning and emergency preparedness appropriate to capacity (including fire safety awareness, evacuation readiness, and redundancy when feasible).

  • Operate in a way that prioritizes the safety of cats, people, volunteers, and neighbors.

Coexistence & Respect

  • Engage with neighbors and communities respectfully and calmly, seeking peaceful coexistence whenever possible.

  • Use de-escalation, education, and practical mitigation before confrontation.

  • Avoid retaliatory actions or inflammatory behavior that undermines the ministry.

Wisdom & Boundaries

  • Respect property rights and local laws while seeking humane solutions and reasonable paths forward.

  • When conflict arises, pursue resolution with dignity and clarity rather than hostility.

What This Covenant Is — and Is Not

This covenant is a statement of spiritual alignment and ministry practice.
It is not legal representation, a guarantee of outcomes, or permission to disregard laws or property boundaries.

Affiliation strengthens identity, credibility, and stewardship standards. It does not replace qualified counsel when legal issues arise.
